Artist Al Torres

Painting directly on aluminum angles, Al Torres creates realistic art that appears to move as you walk in front of it.

Considered one of the only artists in the US to continue in the painting genre started by Yaacov Agam, Torres has taken on the challenge of this demanding technique, and proceeded in his own style.

The visual effect of these “multiview paintings” is perceived as movement as the viewer walks in front of, and around the art. The painting reveals and conceals at the spectator’s pace. Torres paints directly onto the surface - aluminum angles set at 45 degrees.

Torres is a full-time professional artist who received his MFA from the New York Academy of Art (cum laude). He trained with renowned artists such as Steven Assael and Vincent Desiderio. Torres was the head studio assistant for the nationally know portrait painter Sharon Sprung for seven years at the Art Students League of New York. His work has been shown in numerous museums and exhibitions. Currently he lives in North Carolina and is an art instructor at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte.
